Genesis 2:18-24

18 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.

But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,

“This is now bone of my bones

    and flesh of my flesh;

she shall be called ‘woman,’

for she was taken out of man.”

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

GOD saw our NEED for a partner!

Genesis 1:31

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Genesis 2:18

The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

Genesis 2:20-23

20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.

But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,

“This is now bone of my bones

    and flesh of my flesh;

she shall be called ‘woman,’

for she was taken out of man.”

Here’s our STRUCTURE

Genesis 2:24

That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

LEAVE – UNITE – BECOME ONE

👇 Let’s start at the end 👇

BECOME ONE

Our example is GOD (The oneness of the trinity)

John 10:30

I and the Father are one.”

John 17:20-21

20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

Ephesians 5:21, 29

21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.

The ONENESS we experience with Jesus is the ONENESS we long for in marriage.

LEAVE

Hb. Azab – to completely abandon and leave behind.

Jeremiah 2:13

13 “For my people have done two evil things:

They have abandoned me—

    the fountain of living water.

And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns

that can hold no water at all!

Jeremiah 2:17

17 And you have brought this upon yourselves

by rebelling against the Lord your God,

even though he was leading you on the way!

Jeremiah 5:7

7 “How can I pardon you?

For even your children have turned from me.

They have sworn by gods that are not gods at all!

I fed my people until they were full.

But they thanked me by committing adultery

and lining up at the brothels.

👇 Lot’s Wife Example 👇

Genesis 19:26

But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.

Lost her marriage, kids, family, life, because the Lord wanted her to leave without looking back, and she just couldn’t stand it!

UNITE

2 Samuel 5:1-2 NIV

“All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, “We are your own flesh and blood. In the past, while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns. And the Lord said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.’ ””

dāḇaq – to unite.

Deuteronomy 4:4 New Living Translation

4 But all of you who were faithful to the Lord your God are still alive today—every one of you.

Deuteronomy 10:20

Fear the Lord your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name.

Deuteronomy 11:22

If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow—to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him and to hold fast to him—

Deuteronomy 13:4

It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.

Deuteronomy 30:20 New Living Translation

20 You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
