Scripture
There was a point in my life when I was scared to talk to anyone. I would always keep to myself and never in a million years would I be the center of attention in a particular situation. I would rather keep to myself and be super reflective and internal. I always came across as introverted and quiet. That has drastically changed in my life. I now consider myself an extrovert. People often define being extroverted as gaining energy from people vs. introverted being gaining energy from spending time alone. I like both, but I definitely land on the extroverted side. I would love to be out talking to people for hours. When I lived by myself, I would go to the HEB supermarket in town to get myself a snack and see people walking around. It gave me energy, but I had to realize that it didn’t give me strength.
Jeremiah 17:5 “This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD.” The Israelites trusted in man and because of it they were destroyed and conquered. For me, going out and seeing people gave me energy, but true strength only comes from the Lord. I realized that it did not matter how much energy I had if I was spiritually drained. I had a mentor that told me that I needed to have activities that filled me up weekly, monthly, and quarterly, but that the only thing that would fill me up spiritually was daily time with the Lord.
It is easy in this fast-paced world and all of our to-do lists to go a day or two without spending time with God. The problem is that every day that you don’t seek His presence you are draining your spiritual cup. After a while, you might begin to fill the need and the guilt might keep you away from even longer. Don’t let it get that far! The only One who can fill you up is the living water that will remove all thirst. Let’s reverse Jeremiah 17:5, Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who draws strength by turning his heart toward Him.
Prayer
HONOR GOD
Matthew 6:9-10, “This, then, is how you should pray:“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven…”
In your own words, take a few moments and honor God. Reflect on the price He paid to have a relationship with you, and His love for you.
ASK GOD
Matthew 6:11 Give us today our daily bread.
Picture God extending His hands towards you. What are you concerned about that needs to be placed in His hands? What is the “bread” you need from Him? Ask Him.
SUBMIT TO GOD
Matthew 6:12-13 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
Imagine yourself entering a dark room, with a person in front of you, holding a flashlight, leading you. That’s what God does. As He leads you, tell Him how you desire to follow Him.
CLOSING PRAYER
Father, help me to cling to your promises for they are the realest thing I have. They are true and everlasting. Do not allow me to give up your promises for simple earthly pleasures or moments of weakness. Keep me from the temptations of the enemy and may your Holy Spirit guide me in my walk each and everyday. In Jesus Name, Amen.
