Scripture
Today’s chapters in Psalm dealt a lot with enemies. Sometimes I struggle with these passages because no matter what is happening, I usually don’t have people throwing spears at me—usually. However, there are a lot of things that can feel like attacks and those attacks do take away from our energy, our joy, even our spirit. When I first started reading, I related better than usual because I had felt these types of attacks recently. I felt like people were out to do me harm. Honestly, I have been going through some tough times. I thought that I was getting a taste of what David was saying, again without spears actually being thrown. Then I came to Psalm 61—it wasn’t so much that I was relating to the words—it was that I needed to relate to the words. I needed to call to the Lord as my heart felt faint. I need Him to take me to the rock that was higher than I (v 2). I need the reminder that God is our refuge and strong tower (v 3). I know that we all go through things that are tough. Sometimes we don’t think our struggles are as hard as others. Sometimes our struggles feel like they are too much. Honestly, sometimes our struggles in the moment turn out to be far less than we thought they would be once we have survived them. What we need, no matter the situation, is to cry out to God and as we grow faint, continue to call out to the one who is that Rock and strong tower. Remember that God has done it before and can do it again. Remember that He is the one we cry out to when overwhelmed because He does care. As one who knows, sometimes we don’t feel it. Sometimes the enemies feel too strong. The spears, by the way, can be pretty sharp. Yet we cry out to Him and conclude just as David did in verse 8, “Then will I ever sing praise to Your name…”. Being overwhelmed and feeling crushed doesn’t mean God isn’t there…it means our faint heart leads us to cry out all the more to Him who is faithful, no matter the circumstances.
Prayer
HONOR GOD
He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds. He counts the number of the stars; He gives names to all of them. Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite.
Psalms 147:3-5 NASB
There is nothing to big or small for our loving God.
ASK GOD
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Philippians 4:6
When a child needs something, they normally don’t have the capacity to acquire what they desire. They will call out to their parents and ask because they know that the parent has the capacity. Let’s ask God with prayer knowing that He is capable of everything.
SUBMIT TO GOD
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7
Resist temptation and pursue holiness that is pleasing to God.
CLOSING PRAYER
God purify me. Refine my heart and my mind to glorify You in everything I do. Do not let me fall to the left or to the right, but be my rock and keep me on the right path. I accept the peace that You have for me. In Jesus Name, Amen.
