Scripture
I’ve been called many things. Dramatic, emotional, emotive, empathetic, a “deep-feeler,” the list goes on and on. Whether these words are meant to encourage or destroy, I’ll take them on happily! Is anyone else a little “over-expressive?” I see you 🙂
If there was ever a place for us “creatives” to find commonality, it’s in the Psalms. These songs and poems are full of emotion and expression from both ends of the spectrum! One moment, we’re reading of despair and the next of great joy! You may feel like you’re on a spiritual roller-coaster as you dive into these passages. And for those of you who stand “firmly” in your faith, just know that God must also understand the “feelings” that are a part of the human experience or He wouldn’t have included them in such a big portion of the Bible!
When I am willing to share myself with the Lord and bear the truth of my heart, He has a way of coming in and changing me. As I read through the beginning of the book of Psalms, I begin to see a pattern. We bear our souls and God turns our hearts toward His Kingdom. We share our worries, our anxieties, our circumstances, our woes, and God steps in and in all His mercy, redirects us to His might.
Today, as you begin this fresh journey through the Psalms, I encourage you to embrace them as an example of prayer. Come to the Father with what you have, even if all you have today is weakness. Offer Him your burdens and be prepared for them to be lifted! When you’re willing to offer yourself as we see in the Psalms, God returns with His peace, comfort, wisdom, and the power of the Holy Spirit in your life!
Prayer
HONOR GOD
I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be a permanent covenant with them. I will establish and multiply them and will set my sanctuary among them forever. My dwelling place will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people.
Ezekiel 37:26-27
What an honor it is that we are permanently at peace with God and that He has chosen us as His people and His dwelling place.
ASK GOD
Give us today our daily bread.
Matthew 6:11
Picture God extending His hands towards you.
What are you concerned about that needs to be placed in His hands? What is the “bread” you need from Him? Ask Him.
SUBMIT TO GOD
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
Matthew 6:12-13
Imagine yourself entering a dark room, with a person in front of you, holding a flashlight, leading you. That’s what God does. As He leads you, tell Him how you desire to follow Him.
CLOSING PRAYER
God, thank You for speaking to me! I will trust what You ask me to do, even when I don’t understand the reasons why. I don’t always need the answers, I just need You. In Jesus Name, Amen.
