WE ARE HANGRY – Theory, are we starving?

  • Symptoms of hunger physical vs. Spiritual
    • Hate, misery, anxiety, impatient, cruelty, evil, unfaithful, harsh, undisciplined
      • Galatians 5:22-23 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”

WE ARE FILLED WITH GARBAGE

  • We fill ourselves with trash
    • Settle for second hand, instead of face to face
  • Maybe we are filling ourselves with poison
  • You are what you eat
    • Philippians 4:8: And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”

WHO IS THE FOOD? (THE SOURCE)

Living Water

  • John 4:14: “But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life”.
  • John 7:38: “Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them”.
  • Psalm 42:1: “As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.”

Bread of Life

  • John 6:35: “I am the Bread of Life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty
  • Matthew 4:4 (NLT) But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’

True Food and True Drink, taste and see

  • John 6:55-58 “For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. I live because of the living Father who sent me; in the same way, anyone who feeds on me will live because of me.”
  • Psalm 34:8. “Oh taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”

EATING REGULARLY

  • We die of dehydration after 3 days, 4 days study shows us we increase life
    • The power of 4 study
  • Matthew 6, the Lords prayer “daily bread”
  • 24/7 Pizza
    • This table is available at any time
      • The restaurant is always open, we have access
      • YOU ARE THE TEMPLE!
        • 1 Corinthians 6:19 “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;”
        • John 6:54-56 “54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.”

MATURE TO ADULTHOOD

 – You cannot live by the fruit of others or you will be a child forever

– More like side dishes

  • Eventually you’ll be embittered because the church won’t meet your needs
  • Babies must be taught how to feed themselves.
    • Hebrews 5:13-14For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. 14 Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.”
  • Church leaders are not the food
    • You can plant a seed and water it, only God gives the growth
    • 1 Corinthians 3:5-9After all, who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God’s servants through whom you believed the Good News. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us. 6 I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow.”

COMBAT DRYNESS – When the table looks empty. When the words don’t feel like they’re coming alive, when God isn’t filling you up.

THE CLOCHE

  • Recreating the veil, sin, shame, pride
  • Exodus 26:31-33 “For the inside of the Tabernacle, make a special curtain of finely woven linen. Decorate it with blue, purple, and scarlet thread and with skillfully embroidered cherubim. 32 Hang this curtain on gold hooks attached to four posts of acacia wood. Overlay the posts with gold, and set them in four silver bases. 33 Hang the inner curtain from clasps, and put the Ark of the Covenant[a] in the room behind it. This curtain will separate the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place.”
  1. Hebrews 10:19-22And so, dear brothers and sisters,[a] we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. 20 By his death,[b] Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. 21 And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, 22 let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.”

IDOLS

  • You are a vessel with limits. A bowl
    • Principal of displacement
  • You must pour yourself out first
    • Philippians 2:17But I will rejoice even if I lose my life, pouring it out like a liquid offering to God,[a]”

CHOOSE THE BETTER THING – PERSERVERE

  • Mary and Martha
    • Luke 10:38-42 As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. 40 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”  But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”
  • Reset your schedule, reestablish your life around THE ONE and you will be filled
  • Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd;  I have all that I need.

2 He lets me rest in green meadows;

he leads me beside peaceful streams.

3     He renews my strength.

He guides me along right paths,

    bringing honor to his name.

4 Even when I walk

    through the darkest valley,[a]

I will not be afraid,

for you are close beside me.

Your rod and your staff

    protect and comfort me.

5 You prepare a feast for me

in the presence of my enemies.

You honor me by anointing my head with oil.

    My cup overflows with blessings.

6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me

all the days of my life,

and I will live in the house of the Lord

    Forever.

CLOSE

  • Ephesians 3:16-19: “16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

Sermon Questions

  • Recognizing Spiritual Hunger: In what areas of your life do you notice signs of “hunger” or dissatisfaction—whether through negative emotions or a sense of emptiness—and how might you be unintentionally “filling” that hunger with spiritual rubbish instead of the true nourishment that comes from God’s Word?
  • Identifying the True Source of Nourishment: Reflecting on the imagery of Living Water and the Bread of Life, how have you experienced Jesus as the source of sustenance in your life? What practical steps can you take to “taste and see” His goodness more deeply and ensure that your daily spiritual diet is filled with His truth rather than second-hand substitutes?
  • Combatting Spiritual Dryness and Prioritizing the Divine: When you feel spiritually dry or overwhelmed by life’s distractions—as illustrated by Martha’s busyness—what intentional changes can you make to “reset your schedule” and prioritize time with God? How might you cultivate habits that allow you to remain at the Lord’s feet and receive His renewing strength, even when the table seems empty?
