Scripture

In 2002 Johnny Cash released what would be one of his last songs, The Man Comes Around. In one of the most iconic folk alternatives ever, Cash begins the song acapella with these lyrics:

And I heard, as it were, the noise of thunder.

One of the four beasts saying,

‘Come and see.’ and I saw, and behold a white horse.”

Then Cash begins a killer acoustic guitar line that forces your imagination to see a stampede of horse hooves galloping through the valley, followed by the lyrics, “There’s a man, goin round, takin names.” BOOM! The rest is history. What Cash summarizes in one song is Revelation 6-19 and the triumphant victory coming. We’re part of the army, Jesus returns, and the devil is humiliated.

As we wrap up Revelation 19 I can’t think of a better commentary than the final lyrics to Cash’s hit:

And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts,

And I looked, and behold a pale horse,

And his name that sat on him was death, and hell followed with him.

Revelation 19 finishes with Satan and his army losing the battle and being cast into the lake of “fiery sulfur.” Satan sucks. He loses. After trying so hard to create his own kingdom, his ending is nothing more than kindling for the fires of hell.

I don’t know what you’re going through, but I know we win, decidedly, in the end. We’re on white horses with Jesus, we overthrow the enemy, and we watch him burn as we live in harmony with God as He’s always intended us to.

That’s our hope. That’s our story. Shout it from the rooftops today: “Come and see, and I saw, and behold, a white horse.”

Prayer

HONOR GOD

Matthew 6:9-10, “This, then, is how you should pray:“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven…”

In your own words, take a few moments and honor God. Reflect on the price He paid to have a relationship with you, and His love for you.

ASK GOD

Matthew 6:11 Give us today our daily bread.

Picture God extending His hands towards you. What are you concerned about that needs to be placed in His hands? What is the “bread” you need from Him? Ask Him.

SUBMIT TO GOD

Matthew 6:12-13 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Imagine yourself entering a dark room, with a person in front of you, holding a flashlight, leading you. That’s what God does. As He leads you, tell Him how you desire to follow Him.

CLOSING PRAYER

Father, help me to cling to your promises for they are the realest thing I have. They are true and everlasting. Do not allow me to give up your promises for simple earthly pleasures or moments of weakness. Keep me from the temptations of the enemy and may your Holy Spirit guide me in my walk each and everyday. In Jesus Name, Amen.
