Scripture

Growing up everyone told me I should be an engineer. The way I did things and the way I thought simply led me in that direction. I couldn’t agree more. Logically, everything pointed to me having a successful career in it. That was before knowing what God had personally called me to. I did end up studying Engineering and working in it for a little while, but I knew in my heart that God had called me to be a pastor. Not everyone is called to work full-time as a pastor, but I do believe that everyone is called to preach the gospel. During my time studying and working as an engineer, I was able to speak to my classmates and coworkers about the grace of God and His resurrection.

I’ve always been fascinated by how Paul would travel from town to town and thousands of people would become followers of the way. I honestly thought of the incredible influence and speaking ability he might have had for such an impact to be done by the gospel. The truth is, Paul was just a man. It was the power of the gospel of Jesus working through him and many others.

My leadership professor in seminary used to constantly say, “nothing great is achieved on your own.” He was right. Paul didn’t go into these towns all by himself; he came with a team of people that would go out and preach the gospel with him. Paul was not the only one called to preach the gospel. They all were. Jews and Greeks, male and female, all were following Paul and proclaiming the good news of Jesus.

Whether you are a lawyer, a doctor, a nurse, an engineer, a sales associate, or whatever your job or role in your organization is, you are called to preach the gospel. Just like those who were following Paul around. Your job is the medium to which you have been called to be salt and light. To be a person of influence for salvation in Jesus Christ. I understand that at times it can be awkward or there could be regulations against it. It was the same for Paul. Many times he got in trouble for it, but the one thing he never lost sight of was his message. He was creative, wise, and contextual in his delivery. But for Paul, it was always all about Jesus Christ.

Prayer

HONOR GOD

Psalm 147:5

How great is our God! There’s absolutely nothing His power cannot accomplish, and He has infinite understanding of everything.

Thank you Lord, that I don’t have to understand every aspect of my situations. You understand it all when I do not, and are able to do what I can not.

ASK GOD

2 Samuel 22:7

I called to the Lord in my distress; i called to my God. From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry for help reached his ears.

God is listening and hears every desperate cry.

SUBMIT TO GOD

Proverbs 3:5‭-‬6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

I relinquish all control to you Lord. Your path for my life will always be better than anything that I could do on my own.

CLOSING PRAYER

Lord, thank you for your abundant, abounding grace. Thank you that we don’t have to earn a drop of the mighty river of grace that flows freely for us today. Thank you for the unexpected, unmerited favor you’ve showered on my life. Help me put myself in the path of your love and grace. Help me not neglect the disciplines I need to meet with you regularly and to drink from the water of life. Thank you for your rich love.  In Jesus Name, Amen.
