Scripture

Everyone knows the story of the Titanic. The unsinkable ship that fell to the hands of Mother Nature in the North Atlantic over 100 years ago. This story has always fascinated me. Mostly due to the fact that I’ve asked myself over and over again, how did this happen? The crew had voyaged over the North Atlantic before and knew there were hazards in their path. Warning signs were all around them in the form of icebergs and the best way to avoid these during the early 1900’s were to rely upon the naked eye. In the days before radar, sonar, and other technologies that might have helped a human being had to do the job of watching out over the ships path from the crows nest.

We all know the story. The watchman saw the iceberg and warned the ship’s crew deck of the impending danger, but it was all too late. The ship struck an iceberg and ultimately sank, resulting in one of the worst catastrophes of that day and time. The ships’ need for speed and setting records for their passage were far greater than the protection and safety of the passengers and crew. The watchman did his job, but the circumstances around him were set up for the ship’s failure.

In Ezekiel 33 we find God’s call on Ezekiel’s life much the same as the crew on Titanic-a watchman for Israel. It is Ezekiel’s job to warn Israel of their pitfalls and if they heed the warning they will be saved, if not, their blood would be on their own heads. How often do we get warnings from God or from people God has placed in our lives of impending danger? Will we heed those warnings and save ourselves, or will we choose to ignore them and suffer the consequences? The choice is ours. God has given us ample resources to live this life and follow the path of righteousness. It is our job to recognize the signs!

Prayer

HONOR GOD

Psalm 147:5

How great is our God! There’s absolutely nothing His power cannot accomplish, and He has infinite understanding of everything.

Thank you Lord, that I don’t have to understand every aspect of my situations. You understand it all when I do not, and are able to do what I can not.

ASK GOD

2 Samuel 22:7

I called to the Lord in my distress; i called to my God. From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry for help reached his ears.

God is listening and hears every desperate cry.

SUBMIT TO GOD

Proverbs 3:5‭-‬6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

I relinquish all control to you Lord. Your path for my life will always be better than anything that I could do on my own.

CLOSING PRAYER

Lord, thank you for your abundant, abounding grace. Thank you that we don’t have to earn a drop of the mighty river of grace that flows freely for us today. Thank you for the unexpected, unmerited favor you’ve showered on my life. Help me put myself in the path of your love and grace. Help me not neglect the disciplines I need to meet with you regularly and to drink from the water of life. Thank you for your rich love.  In Jesus Name, Amen.
