Scripture
A couple of years ago, when I was living in Florida I was on my way to Costa Rica. I was running late so I crammed everything into my bags to make my way to the airport. I had to get on I-4 which is the equivalent to I-45 around here. Consequently, they were making repairs to the highway and everything was moving extremely slowly. My GPS’s time of arrival kept on being pushed back without any warning. I arrived at the airport 20-30 minutes before my flight departed. I ran to check in my bags and asked for help to get ahead from whoever was around. I was so late that the lady at the counter told me that the gates weren’t closed yet, but it was now or never. She didn’t know if I would make it. I ran through the airport, cut in line through security, and made it to my gate. I literally crossed the gate and the doors closed behind me. I was so close to losing my flight, but thankfully I made it.
Jeremiah is preaching to the Jews in Egypt and he is telling them it is now or never. You either turn back from worshiping your other gods and burning incense to them or you will be destroyed like the other towns were. It is now, or never. Jeremiah 44:10-11 “To this day they have not humbled themselves or shown reverence, nor have they followed my law and the decrees I set before you and your ancestors. Therefore this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I am determined to bring disaster on you and to destroy all Judah.”
Paul said in Romans 7 that he did not understand why he did what he hated. We can all identify with that in some way shape or form, but what if today was the day that you had to get on the plane? What if today was the now or never? Would you? I want to encourage you to reflect on the Lord and to submit and surrender that which is still a thorn in your flesh. To go into God’s presence humbled and with reverence knowing that you are not the one who can do what you want to do. That if it were for you, the plane would’ve left you. But because of Jesus you can get on that plane in time.
Prayer
HONOR GOD
I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be a permanent covenant with them. I will establish and multiply them and will set my sanctuary among them forever. My dwelling place will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people.
Ezekiel 37:26-27
What an honor it is that we are permanently at peace with God and that He has chosen us as His people and His dwelling place.
ASK GOD
Give us today our daily bread.
Matthew 6:11
Picture God extending His hands towards you.
What are you concerned about that needs to be placed in His hands? What is the “bread” you need from Him? Ask Him.
SUBMIT TO GOD
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
Matthew 6:12-13
Imagine yourself entering a dark room, with a person in front of you, holding a flashlight, leading you. That’s what God does. As He leads you, tell Him how you desire to follow Him.
CLOSING PRAYER
God, thank You for speaking to me! I will trust what You ask me to do, even when I don’t understand the reasons why. I don’t always need the answers, I just need You. In Jesus Name, Amen.
