Scripture
I often get “lost in the moment” while watching my 14th-month-old son. He’s constantly discovering new things and watching him do the simplest thing is strangely enjoyable! Markers are his newest obsession. Don’t worry, they’re the washable kind! I could sit there all afternoon and watch him try and figure out how to put the lids back on, make doodles, and most of all, discover they aren’t food even though they smell like it 🙂
I clap when he holds the markers properly and I celebrate when he makes a simple doodle because I know where this newfound skill is leading! I know that one day he might be sitting with a pen and paper, writing a devotional just like his mama! I know the small skills he’s learning now can lead to bigger skills that will hopefully serve the Kingdom of God. I see his potential from a very wide perspective. God sees us the same way. We are His children, learning and growing in skill and faith and we walk with Him. We don’t know our own potential but we walk in faith, trusting God’s plan.
David was born a Shepherd. Before he became “King David,” he was leading sheep and protecting them from harm. Day after day, he fought off potential predators, unaware of the skills he was building. David was fighting lions and bears long before he was fighting the enemies of God! He was growing in patience, strength, and bravery, all while awaiting the day God called him into battle.
David’s story challenges me to see my daily life differently. Each day, as I commit myself to honoring God, He is working in me and preparing me for what’s coming. I may not see the outcome at this very moment, but I believe the skills I am gaining and the spiritual seeds I am planting will one day bloom into something God has already foreseen. God watches me like a parent, as I clumsily stumble through challenges and learn along the way. My journey with Him was never meant to be smooth after all, it was meant to provide an opportunity for growth! As I trust Him with my life, He is preparing me for bigger challenges and a greater harvest.

CLOSING PRAYER
Father, may we never forget the sacredness of Christ’s blood. We thank you that you loved us enough to sacrifice your only son so that we may have everlasting life. Lord, through your Spirit who resides within us, guide our hearts towards a greater understanding of who You are and the preciousness of Christ’s sacrifice. In Jesus Name, Amen.
